Trnava Self-Governing Region is one of the founders of the Regional Development Agency in Skalica. Trnava Self-Governing Region is one of eight self-governing regions in Slovakia. The region is divided into municipalities – districts. It is governed by deputies led by a chairman (they are all elected for a period of four years).

Most part of the land is covered by fertile lowlands interrupted by not very high mountains. It includes three regions: Záhorie on the north-west, Trnava region in the centre and Rye Island on the south. The region borders on three states (the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary). Its location makes international cooperation possible. It is part of the so-called triangle – the developing region of Vienna, Bratislava and Györ.

Integrated network of Regional Development Agencies (IS RRA) was founded by the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic, following the resolution of the government of the Slovak Republic Nr. 738/2000. IS RRA includes 34 regional development agencies from all over Slovakia. The Ministry of Construction and Regional Development partly supports the activity of agencies, mainly in the sphere of providing information about the support from the EU, following the Act Nr. 539/2008 on the support of regional development.

The aim of IS RRA is to achieve the possibility of effective participation in creating concepts and strategies of regional development, planning and carrying out development activities, creating legislation in the sphere of regional development and preparing conditions for complex solutions of sustainable regional development in Slovakia (together with other partners and participants).

The regional association Partnerstvo pre Horné Záhorie is a public citizen action, which was founded in 2007. It associates villages in the district of Skalica and the village of Smolinské, businessmen, non-profit organizations and active citizens in fulfilling the principle LEADER. The membership in the association is open for all who are willing to participate. The aim of the association is to work out an integrated strategy of regional development and its implementation via partial projects.

Aims of the association:
- creating conditions for cooperation in modernization and development of the region
- supporting sustainable development of rural region
- improving the quality of life in rural environment
- supporting promotion of country’s modernization
- supporting exchange of experience in rural development on national and European level
- common projects on national and international level in the sphere of rural development
